Jared Kushner’s May 2021 Stay at the Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi Cost U.S. Taxpayers Thousands

While it’s been almost a full six months since Donald Trump was kicked out of office and Jared Kushner lost his position as a presidential adviser, he continues to run up a multi-thousand dollar tab with the federal government.

According to a federal acquisitions document, the State Department laid out at least $12,950 for Jared Kushner’s Secret Service detail to accompany him during a stay at the Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi this month.

A contract that was awarded without the competitive bids usually necessary to do business with the federal government demanded 50 “room nights,” at $259 each, for Kushner’s Secret Service entourage to accompany and protect him during his May 5-14 visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) capital.

“The selection was based on the Former Senior Advisor to the President of the United States, JARED KUSHNER decision and the high security level the hotel provides,” the document says.

About a month before Trump left office, his son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner took off on one last overseas trip. The official excursion cost United States (US) taxpayers at least $24,335 in hotel costs alone, not including flights, local transportation, meals, as well as salary and overtime for Kushner’s Secret Service protective detail.

As The Washington Post wrote in January, “The perk for the Trump family is expected to cost taxpayers millions of dollars and further stress the elite federal security force, which in the past four years had to staff the largest number ever of full-time security details—up to 42 at one point, according to former senior administration officials.”

This isn’t the first time the multi-millionaire Kushner has benefitted from taxpayers. Kushner and wife Ivanka Trump, the oldest daughter of former US President Donald Trump, spent a luxury weekend in the Dominican Republic in 2018 and U.S. taxpayers footed the bill for their security detail, spending more than $58,000 in public funds on room and board.
