Jennifer Lawrence and her new fiancé Cooke Maroney were seen walking around New York City on Monday night, a day before the news of their engagement broke. The snap shows the art gallery director carrying a paper bag while Lawrence, 28, adjusts her coat, showing off her left-hand ring finger front and center. The Oscar winner stepped out in black tights, a black coat and a skirt with polkadots; her groom-to-be, 34, sported a black coat, grey sweater and black pants.
The movie star’s reps confirmed to PEOPLE Tuesday that Lawrence is engaged to Maroney. Page Six first spread the word of the upcoming wedding after Lawrence was spotted wearing a “massive ring” at a dinner earlier this week with Maroney at Raoul’s, an upscale French restaurant in New York City.
“It was a giant rock. They seemed like they were celebrating and people were talking about it,” a source told Page Six. “The ring was very noticeable. They were sitting back in a corner. She was wearing a cute black dress with white polka dots.” A source confirmed to PEOPLE in June the actress was dating Maroney. Since then, the two haven’t shied away from going on dates in public together. In late June, the couple was photographed enjoying a romantic candlelit dinner in New York City.
They followed up their date with a trip to Paris (later going to Rome) in August. A source told PEOPLE the couple “seemed happy, occasionally holding hands” while in the French capital. The insider noted the couple stayed at The Ritz hotel while on their “very short trip,” and that they mostly “went walking together.”
