The relationship got more complicated over the years due to embarrassing media leaks and the growing rift between Prince Harry and Prince William.
What existed between the two royal women ended with the Oprah Winfrey interview where Markle dropped the bombshell that Middleton made her cry over bridesmaid dresses ahead of her royal wedding.
The pair was forced to briefly reunite during a time of grief for the royals — the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, and take part in a walkabout, and reports claimed that Catherine, Princess of Wales, said it was the most challenging thing she had to do in her life.
This week, a royal expert shed some light on why Middleton and Markle have so much bad blood.
According to biographer Robert Jobson, Middleton is and will remain furious at the former actress because she ruined her opportunity to be at Queen Elizabeth II‘s side before she died.
The author of Our King — said that King Charles was forced to ban Middleton from flying to Balmoral to see the Queen on her deathbed to “ensure Prince Harry didn’t have an excuse to bring his wife because he might have insisted if the Princess of Wales was there.”
Via the Daily Mail and the Daily Telegraph, the commentator said that King Charles punished Middtelon to hurt Markle.
He revealed: “The King said it was only for the children and grandchildren to be with the Queen. Charles wanted to stress that it was not appropriate for wives to attend.”
Note that two wives — Camilla, Queen Consort, and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, were in Scotland with the dying Queen.
King Charles had a private heartbreaking telephone conversation with Middtelon where he asked her to stay at Adelaide Cottage while the Queen took her last breath in Scotland.
Middleton will forever resent Markle for the role she played in the heartbreaking situation. Jobson said: “Privately, he wanted to say Meghan was not welcome. Kate deliberately stayed away, but she desperately wanted to be there with the Queen in her last moments.
That’s eaten Kate up and has built up resentment towards Meghan. But he couldn’t say that to Harry, so he personally intervened and asked Kate to stay back so that it was fairer on Meghan.”
He concluded by saying: “…the Princess of Wales – who had stayed back at Adelaide Cottage and was spotted leaving Windsor Castle to collect the children from school on the day – had wanted to be there with the Queen’ but couldn’t be.”
The latest reports claimed that Middleton is delighted that Markle will not be at the coronation.
