The book is due to be released next week and provides insight into how the couple split off from the Royal Family. Parts of the biography claim Prince Harry was angered by a “tone of snobbishness” on Prince William’s part, after the Duke of Cambridge gave advice to his brother on his then-new relationship with Meghan.
Prince William allegedly advised Prince Harry: “Take as much time as you need to get to know this girl.”
Now, Royal commentator Lady Colin Campbell has claimed this part of the book has “upset” some members of the Royal Family.
She said in a recent report: “I am told everybody is extremely upset, that William is not a snob – he would’ve said the same thing had she been the daughter of a Duke.”
Lady Campbell said Prince William had been “misrepresented” by the tell-all account.
And royal expert Duncan Larcombe said: “I think Kate will be desperately sad by the book.”
He added there was “plenty of time” for the two Duchesses to “form a bond” had Harry and Meghan not made an exit from royal duties.
However, Finding Freedom also reveals things from the view of the Duke and Duchess, including how Prince Harry found it hard to discuss with anyone in the Royal Family how he felt.
An extract, published in the Times, reads: “While they both respected the hierarchy of the institution, it was difficult when they wanted to focus on a project and were told that a more senior ranking family member, be it Prince William or Prince Charles, had an initiative or tour being announced at the same time — so they would just have to wait.
“For months the couple tried to air these frustrations, but the conversations didn’t lead anywhere. Worse, there were just a handful of people working at the palace they could trust.”
Another extract reads: “Harry felt very constrained. He wanted to be able to speak to his grandmother and his father but constantly found aides blocking his path.”
It also reveals the Duke’s frustration with the negative press, whom he referred to as “paid trolls”.
He added: “It’s a sick part of the society we live in today, and no one is doing anything about it. Where’s the positivity? Why is everyone so miserable and angry?”
The book also reveals inside aspects of the relationship between Meghan and Kate.
At one of the Sussexes’ last royal engagements – the Commonwealth service at Westminster Abbey – the book suggests Kate acted frostily towards Meghan.
An extract reads: “Although Meghan tried to make eye contact with Kate, the duchess barely acknowledged her.”
It also claims the two Duchesses had “struggled to move past the distant politeness” of their first meeting.
Finding Freedom is due to be released on August 11, though snippets of the book have been released ahead of the date.
Its authors, Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, reportedly spoke with over 100 sources during the book’s creation.
These included royal staff as well as close friends of Harry and Meghan.
Duncan said: “It might be that the book will help clear the air. It’d be nice to think they could bury the hatchet now, but I don’t think many people think that’s going to happen.”
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have distanced themselves from the book, saying they were not interviewed for the biography and did not make any contributions to it.
