Kate briefly opened up on homeschooling in a video released yesterday by Buckingham Palace to mark International Nurses Day. The Duchess of Cambridge took part in a series of video calls to nurses around the world to learn more about their job and thank them for their efforts.
Sophie joined her in the conference calls, as shown in the Court Circular, the royal archive detailing every single official engagement carried out by members of the Royal Family.
During one of the seven phone calls, Sophie and Kate learned one of the nurses’ ex-wife is a teacher.
This prompted Sophie to lightly joke with the Duchess of Cambridge, suggesting the mother-of-three may be struggling with homeschooling.
As the nurse revealed his ex-wife’s job, Sophie started laughing, saying: “Be careful, be careful, she is about to be recruited”.
Kate, smiling and looking coyly away from the camera, admitted she may need some help with homeschooling her two older children, George and Charlotte.
She said: “I’d quite like her to come and help me at home with homeschooling…”
Kate has been homeschooling Prince George and Princess Charlotte since late March, when the Government shut down all schools across the country to stop the spread of coronavirus.
In a recent interview to the BBC, Kate and Prince William opened up on this experience, with the Duke of Cambridge jokingly saying: “Yeah, homeschooling is fun!”
Kate also confessed she told the children a little white lie and made them work on a rigid schedule even throughout the Easter break.
She said: “But don’t tell the children we’ve actually kept it going through the holidays.
“I feel very mean.”
Kate and Sophie joined forces on Monday, when they called seven hospitals and associations scattered around the Commonwealth to hear from nurses.
The Court Circular read: “The Duchess of Cambridge and The Countess of Wessex this afternoon held conference calls with nurses from around the Commonwealth in advance of International Nurses Day on 12th May.
“The Duchess of Cambridge and The Countess of Wessex, Global Ambassador, International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness, talked to nurses from LV Prasad Eye Institute and Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, India.”
Kate and Sophie also talked with nurses based in Australia, Malawi, Cyprus, Sierra Leone, Bahamas and London.
Throughout the past months, Kate has been in touch with several of his patronages where nurses and midwives work to thank them for their work.
In late 2019, the Duchess also wrote an open letter ahead of 2020, a year designated to pay tribute to nurses and midwives.
In her message, Kate thanked midwives across the country for doing an “amazing job” in bringing to the world children every day.
