Wearing a one-shoulder satin Lanvin dress, Louboutin heels and a gold Tod’s clutch, Washington gushed about her Elle shoot, which took place in Los Angeles months earlier.
“It was amazing. The clothes were unbelievable,” the “Scandal” star said, explaining that all the clothes were hot off the runways of Milan and Paris. “It was stuff I hadn’t even seen yet.”
Washington’s “Scandal” cast mates were also in attendance, as were a handful of stars from TV shows “Suits” and “New Girl.” But most of the 60 attendees had their eyes on Iman, who was there to support her friend.
Dressed in all white, Iman wore high-waisted pants from Theory, a matching corset from Club Monaco and a vintage Paloma Picasso clutch, as well as a skinny white belt.
“It’s from Aldo, of all places,” she said laughing, before turning to Washington and her part on “Scandal.”
“I’ve known her for quite a while. Nobody can pull off a role like that,” Iman said, confessing that she’s even got her husband, David Bowie, to watch the show, despite the fact that he prefers British documentaries. “The BBC sends him over a package [of programs] regularly,” she said. “But he watches [‘Scandal’].”
“David Bowie and Iman watch our show? That just made my life,” said Washington’s costar Katie Lowes, who grabbed her friend, Meghan Markle of “Suits,” for a photo with Iman.
“This is happening now,” Lowes said. “It’s Iman. She’s more than a celebrity. She’s an icon.”
The magazine, which hits newsstands on Tuesday, marks Washington’s first major fashion spread, and according to Elle editor in chief Robbie Myers, it has already piqued the interest of fans who “crawled into the back of a truck” housing undelivered copies of the June issue to tweet out images.
