Kim Kardashian robber claims he’s being ‘congratulated in prison’ for £7.9m heist

Yunice Abbas, who has written a book about his involvement in the 2016 robbery of Kim Kardashian during Paris Fashion Week, says he had no idea who she was at first.

Kim Kardashian has spoken of how she thought she was going to be raped and killed when a gang of masked men tied her up and robbed her of millions.

It happened while the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star was in Paris for Fashion Week in 2016, and alone in her hotel room.

The 40-year-old broke down in tears when she described her fear that sister Kourtney would discover her lifeless body and never be able to get over it.

And now, one of the men responsible has claimed that he had no idea who she was when he agreed to take part in the heist.

Yunice Abbas, who has written a book entitled I Kidnapped Kim Kardashian, says he wouldn’t have taken part in the £7.9 million robbery if he knew how famous she and husband Kanye West were.

Abbas, 67, was one of the thieves who bound Kim and held her at gunpoint, stealing millions worth of jewels, including her £3.2 million engagement ring.

Most of it was never recovered.

Abbas, who has spent 18 months in prison on remand, is currently awaiting trial with 12 others, who are mostly over the age of 60.

Giving an interview to French newspaper Le Figaro, he said he’d never heard of Kim or Kanye and just “went along to help get a diamond”.

He said a friend had warned him that Kim was a “star” who was married to a well known “American rapper”.

But Abbas said he “would never have imagined that she was so famous”, claiming it’s because she’s “not my generation”.

He said he found himself being congratulated for his haul by younger prisoners and claimed that prison guards even asked if they could get photos with him.

Abbas claims his role in the robbery was to stand in for the building’s concierge, who was taken up to the room at gunpoint by the other thieves.

He said: “I was supposed to greet guests if any arrived, but no one arrived. Nobody interfered, the victim handed over the jewels without resistance.”

Abbas wrote in his book that he threw Kim’s stolen mobile phone into a canal because singer Tracy Chapman – someone he knew was famous – called.

He penned: “Not possible. I’m hallucinating. My caller was known all over the world.”

The gang were caught soon after the robbery, in part because Abbas’ DNA was found on a jewel he had dropped while they were fleeing the scene.
