At the time, Charles, who was then the Prince of Wales, was on a delicate tour in the Persian Gulf sovereign state, Bahrain, and his team had spent months organizing it, hoping it would receive significant media coverage.
Harry’s confirmation of his relationship with Meghan publicly, along with an attack on the media, overshadowed Charles’s tour and dominated the news cycle. The authors claimed that Harry gave his father just 20 minutes’ notice before releasing the statement.
The book, “Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family,” claimed that Harry was lashing out at anyone who “questioned his new relationship” and was “poised for an outright war” with the media told Mirror.
Despite being “disappointed” by the timing of his son’s statement, Charles “understood that the situation with Meghan had reached a tipping point.” The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their engagement in November 2017 and got married in May 2018.
They stepped down as senior royals in January 2020 and now live in the US with their two children, Archie and Lilibet. Harry is currently traveling to the UK for his father’s Coronation, while Meghan stays at home with their children to celebrate Archie’s fourth birthday.
