Larry King passed away at the end of January at the age of 87, and the iconic host left behind a will that has drawn some questions, particularly from his wife, Shawn King. A handwritten amendment dating back to October 2019 completely cuts Shawn out of his will, dividing his fortune equally among his five children instead.
According to Extra, the note reads, “This is my Last Will & Testament. It should replace all previous writings in the event of my death, any day after the above date I want 100% of my funds to be divided equally among my children Andy, Chaia, Larry Jr., Chance & Cannon.”
King filed for divorce from Shawn only 2 months later though their divorce was not finalized by the time of his death.
When asked about the shocking will in early February, Shawn King did not share her opinion outright.
She told Extra’s Billy Bush at the time: “We are grieving as a family. My boys just lost their father — they are my priority. I will comment further when appropriate.”
However, later, the 61-year-old was more candid when speaking to Page Six.
She told the outlet that they had “a very watertight family estate plan” that they wrote together “as a couple” in 2015.
“It still exists, and it is the legitimate will. Period,” she continued. “And I fully believe it will hold up, and my attorneys are going to be filing a response, probably by the end of the day.”
Plus, according to King’s widow, the timeline of this new will “just doesn’t make sense.” She claims that the two of them continued to speak daily despite rumors of an estrangement.
She did not seem to know why he would have amended the 2015 will, adding, “It beats me!”
However, she did confirm one suspicion. When asked if she believed that someone had exerted influence on Larry to write the new will, she answered, “Yes,” but left it at that.
