Madonna Says she Has Had Covid-19

Madonna has claimed she battled coronavirus, after getting the disease when her Madame X world tour reached Paris in March. She says she has since recovered.

The tour ended three days before the scheduled date, after the French government announced a ban on gatherings of more than 1,000 people, in a bid to curb the spread of the virus.

After recently revealing she had tested positive for coronavirus antibodies, Madonna shared the news to Instagram that she will be donating US$1.1million (approx. $1.7 million) towards finding a cure for coronavirus.

“I’m grateful that I can be a part of supporting research to find the cure for COVID-19!!” she wrote, sharing a screenshot of an article about her donation. “And just to clear things up for people who would rather believe sensationalist headlines than do their own research about the nature of this virus ā€” I am not currently sick.

“When you test positive for anti-bodies it means you HAD the virus which I clearly did as I was sick at the end of my tour in Paris over 7 weeks ago along with many other artists in my show but at the time,” the singer added. “We all thought we had a very bad flu.”

The 61-year-old announced via Instagram in her ‘Quarantine Diary’ IGTV series that she had tested positive for COVID-19 antibodies.

“Took a test the other day, and I found out that I have the antibodies,” Madonna said. “So tomorrow, I’m just going to go for a long drive in the car… and I’m going to breathe in the COVID-19 air. Yep. I hope the sun is shining.”

The ‘Like A Virgin’ singer claimed that following the test, it proved that she had likely already been infected with the coronavirus, though it is unclear if she had suffered any symptoms and whether those antibodies can provide immunity against getting reinfected.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) currently state that if you have the antibodies, it doesn’t not necessarily make you immune to the virus.

“If antibodies do provide immunity, we don’t know what tier or amount of antibodies would be protective or the duration that protection would last,” the CDC’s website states. “CDC scientists are conducting studies to better understand the level of antibodies needed for protection, the duration of that protection, and the factors associated with whether a person develops a protective antibody response.”

It all comes after fans speculated why Madonna broke social distancing rules ā€” attending a birthday party after testing positive for antibodies. She was seen hugging her friend Steven Klein at the party.
