However, it seems that the pair ditched the ‘high-glamour’ royal ways they were expected to behave some time ago because as far back as September they began acting like a down-to-earth Duke and Duchess instead.
During their visit to South Africa, both Meghan and Harry were seen dancing with women and children while laughing and everyone got the sense that this is what they are really about.
Royal expert Christine Ross spoke about the couple on The Mirror’s Pod Save The Queen podcast where she said: ‘[Meghan] was dancing with the children and it was such a stark contrast to some of the events we had seen before her pregnancy.’
‘She’s in this very affordable dress, she’s in affordable wedges, her hair is in a ponytail, she’s dancing with children,’ she said of the relaxed royal.
‘We didn’t know then what we know now but I think that moment and that look was a turning point in their roles, in that they weren’t going to be these high glamour royals any more.’
During the first day of their royal tour, the Duchess of Sussex shied away from usual royal colours and instead chose an affordable dress by the sustainable Malawi-based fashion brand Mayamiko.
The royal expert shared: ‘She was still showing a very normal post-partum body which so many women around the world appreciated and that outfit to me, especially as it marked the beginning of the tour, was a turning point with her relationship with her role as a duchess.’
