The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their first child on May 6 last year.
The Royal couple made the move across the pond earlier this year when they relocated to the US, and it seems lockdown measurements won’t stop the parents from celebrating their son’s first birthday.
Royal expert Katie Nicholl has revealed how the royal couple will be spending the joyous day:
“Meghan’s an amazing cook and loves being creative in the kitchen so I think she’ll have been busy baking so Archie can enjoy his first taste of birthday cake this week. It will be organic and possibly sugar-free. Something suitably healthy for a one year old” Katie told OK!
“If the weather’s good, I think they’ll be splashing around in the pool too.”
Unfortunately Meghan’s mum Doria Ragland, whom Meghan is extremely close with, lives a 40-minute drive away in Los Angeles, meaning Doria will have to wish her grandson a happy birthday from afar.
“Those two dogs Guy the Beagle and Oz the Labrador are the family’s saving grace,” says Katie. “They’re extremely good with Archie and he’s very used to them. With no play dates in the diary, I think they’re his best friends at the moment.”
So it sounds like Archie won’t be lonely on his birthday!
It’s no surprise that Harry and Meghan aren’t set to spoil the tot on his big day:
“Archie has everything he needs but his parents don’t spend silly money on toys and clothes,” says Katie. “Gifts for his new nursery will be welcome but they’ll also appreciate presents that hold meaning rather than material value, such as a donation to a children’s charity or sponsoring an animal in the wild.”
Baby Archie can expect to receive birthday wishes from family via Zoom, ( Zoom is definitely the best thing to happen to us in a long time) including his famous great-grandmother:
“She tends to give understated gifts.” Katie says, “The Queen will wish him happy birthday this week via Zoom as will the Cambridge children. They haven’t seen their little cousin in months so they’ve been looking forward to seeing how much he’s grown.”
A little brother or sister for Archie is very much on the agenda according to Katie:
“Harry says they’d stop at two so that’s a good indication that two is the magic number for them. They do have a lot going on at the moment, looking for a permanent residence, preparing the launch of their charity and finding their feet in a new town, but they seem to relish being busy and it really wouldn’t surprise me if we get a pregnancy announcement.”
“They’re a hands-on couple so they don’t require a chef or butler. “They’ve never wanted a big entourage at home, partly because they don’t like the fuss but also because they’re quite private.”
“Now the Sussexes are based in the States, Archie’s life will be very different from that of his cousins with far less formality and tradition,” says Katie. “He’ll speak with an American accent and experience a completely different culture. He’ll also be mingling with the children of Hollywood stars, although it’s fair to say that it’s Archie who’ll be the most popular playdate for some time to come.”
The Royal family are known for keeping their private lives just that – incredibly private, but it’s become somewhat of a tradition for Kensington Palace to release new pictures on birthdays, so here’s hoping we get an update from baby Archie himself!
