After stepping away from their roles as working members of the British royal family, the public and press are no longer privy to the Sussexes every move.
Since Megxit — the duke and duchess have been living a fairly stress-free life on Vancouver Island in Canada where they’ve become relative homebodies, spending time with their son, Archie, and planning this new phase of their life.
Though their break from the royal family was shocking — the royals have come around in support of the Sussexes. The duo has also said that though they are no longer working royals, they will always support the queen and uphold the legacy of The Crown, In fact, Queen Elizabeth just requested that Markle and Prince Harry return to the U.K. for a royal event.
When they initially announced Megxit — the duke and duchess hoped to work as part-time royals. Unfortunately, that was not really possible. Instead, the pair have stepped away from their royal duties completely. However, though they are no longer senior royals — Markle and Prince Harry have decided that they still have a duty to Queen Elizabeth and the royal family.
“We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen,” they said in a statement.
“It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages.”
Later, after the details of their split were finalized, Prince Harry said in a speech that he had “the utmost respect” for his grandmother and is “incredibly grateful for the support his family has shown him in recent months.
Though Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are setting up their charity, and the duchess is actively looking for an agent and manager to represent her — finding their footing financially is going to take a bit of time. Still, after paying the $3 million back to taxpayers for the renovations of their U.K. home, Frogmore Cottage, the Sussexes are already adding to their personal $30 million net worth.
Last week, Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex flew to Miami where the duke spoke at a JP Morgan event. The prince’s speech to 425 bankers was about facing his grief after the death of his mother. While in Miami — the pair stayed at Markle’s best friend’s Serena Williams estate and dined with Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez.
The Sunday Times is reporting that the Sussexes were paid $1 million (£760,000) for the speech though nothing has been confirmed.
