The engagement announcement came a few months after the royal-born Prince popped the question to the then-Suits actress. In May 2018, they officially wedded in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.
Queen Elizabeth gave her grandson a dukedom, making them the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The following year, they welcomed their firstborn son, Archie Harrison.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry refused to give their son royal titles
As the Heir Apparent to his father’s dukedom, Archie Harrison could have assumed the title of Earl of Dumbarton, according to the Daily Mail. However, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry refused because they wanted to give him a normal life.
The Sussex couple chose to give him, instead, the title of “Master.” His full name then became Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
They had a different name in mind
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reportedly had a different name in mind for their firstborn son. Authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand wrote in their Sussex-centered book, Finding Freedom, that the Duke and Duchess wanted a “traditional” name, according to Hello! magazine.
A source close to the Sussex couple revealed to the authors that they were thinking of a name that is “powerful” even without a title in it. Before fixating themselves into calling their son, Archie, they thought of “Archibald.” While they considered it an official name for their son, he would always be “little Archie,” the source added.
The publication added that Archie means “strength” and “bravery.” This is why they used it as an “inspiration” for their upcoming non-profit organization, Archewell.
Prince Harry revealed one of Archie’s nicknames
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry moved to the United States following their exit earlier this year. Since their relocation, they have seemingly led a private life in their new home.
Amid living the new chapter of their lives, the Duke and Duchess have continued to make appearances in support of their advocacies and patronages. Recently, the royal-born Prince had a video call to mark the 125th anniversary of the Rugby Football League. During the conversation, he “slipped” one of his nicknames for Archie, according to Marie Claire.
He shared his plans to get his son to play rugby. Later on, he referred to him as “our little man,” which many publications deemed “cute.” It remains unclear, though, whether Meghan Markle uses the same nickname for Archie.
