During her speech, the Duchess of Sussex talked about her own experience in fighting against gender inequality. The speech took place on International Women’s Day and was heavily applauded by the audience.
At the time, she was also the Global ambassador for World Vision Canada and represented them in Rwanda for the Clean Water Campaign in 2016.
She was even a women’s ambassador for the UN prior to joining the Royal Family.
However, the speech contained a plagiarised quote which Meghan did not reference in her speech.
Back in 1951, former FLOTUS Eleanor Roosevelt made a speech on the Voice of America Broadcast.
Mrs Roosevelt said in her speech: “It isn’t enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it.
“And it isn’t enough to believe in it. One must work at it.”
Meghan closed her speech with the same quote which swapped the word “peace” for “equality”.
Meghan said: “It isn’t enough to simply talk about equality. One must believe in it.
“And it isn’t enough to believe in it. One must work at it.
“Let us work at it together, starting now.”
Meghan mentioned in her speech that she was just eleven years old she found herself enraged over a “sexist” soap advert.
As a young advocate for change, she decided to write a protest letter to soap powder manufacturers Procter and Gamble.
She also wrote to various prominent women, including Hillary Clinton who was First Lady at the time.
Meghan received lots of support, including a letter from Mrs Clinton.
A few months later, the commercial was changed so that the word “women” was edited to “people”.
It comes as Meghan was described as “faking” her love for Prince Harry for the “high” life, in a shock attack by leading feminist Germaine Greer.
In an outspoken attack Ms Greer, a major voice of second-wave feminism, said she was sceptical of how authentic the Duchess of Sussex has actually been in her marriage.
She told Australian broadcaster 60 Minutes that the outcome of the marriage will “likely be disastrous”.
She said that Meghan’s plans to manipulate her husband to climb the “celebrity” ladder was obvious in their luxury £32million wedding which was “full of showbiz”.
She added that she was not shocked by Meghan and Harry’s decision to step down as senior members of the Royal Family, just a meagre 599 days after the couple tied the knot.
