Twitter Reacts To Meghan Markle Losing HRH Title: ‘Best News’

Twitter users are delighted that Meghan Markle is no longer listed as HRH in one of her charities.

In January, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that they were stepping back as senior members of the royal family. Earlier this month, they carried out their final engagement as royals.

Weeks after their last royal appearance, Markle’s patronage Smart Works dropped her royal title. On its website, the charity only referred to her as “Our Patron, The Duchess of Sussex.” All mentions of “HRH” and “royal” were removed. The move made Markle’s critics happy.

“Best news I’ve heard,” @CarolMa61056283 wrote with a thumbs up emoji.

Prince Harry and Markle also said in their statement when they decided to renounce their title that they would work to be financially independent. However, previous reports said that they used the trademark Sussex Royal on various items and were building their brand around it.

Queen Elizabeth II did not allow the couple to use the label “Sussex Royal.” Many praised the Queen for her move because for them, it was not right for Prince Harry and Markle to still use it when they are no longer working royals.

“I’m sure Harry didn’t expect the hard line the Queen drew in the sand. You’ve been outplayed Markle!” one wrote.

“I find myself admiring the British monarchy when it stands its ground. The attempt to monetize your royalty while being disloyal to the royal family—is just grotesque,” Yoram Hazony, author of “The Virtue of Nationalism,” wrote on Twitter.

However, the Sussexes fired back at the Queen saying that she has no jurisdiction of the word “royal” overseas. The couple also said they had no plans to use the “Sussex Royal” brand and decided to remove their trademark application for it. Twitter users slammed the couple for disrespecting the monarch and “taking themselves too seriously.
