Michelle and Barack Obama traded The White House for $8.1million mansion

In his first major real estate transaction after leaving office, former United States (US) President Barack Obama purchased the Tudor-style home he and his family have rented since January.

According to the details, at a sales price of $8.1 million, Obama’s lavish Washington DC residence makes for an easier transition from the well-appointed White House.

Barack and Michelle made the decision to stay in Washington after his presidency so that their youngest daughter Sasha could complete her high school education. They bought a nine-bedroom Tudor-style mansion that spans 8,500-square-feet and sits on a quarter-acre of land.

Wrapped in washed brick, details like leaded windows and a pitched gable roof capture the historic architecture styles found throughout the DC area.

Interior highlights include a reading room, state-of-the-art kitchen, elaborate doorways, crown moldings and coffered ceilings.

The Obamas purchased the nine-bedroom home through a holding company they control, according to Washington property records posted on Wednesday.

The property was previously owned by the former press secretary to Bill Clinton, Joe Lockhart. The dazzling Kalorama neighborhood is also home to Ivanka Trump and Jeff Bezos, among other high-end homeowners seeking tranquility and seclusion from the political bustle downtown.

The Obamas also own an $11.75 million home in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, which sits on a sprawling 29-acre estate with beautiful sea views, and even has its own private beach and boathouse. The house consists of seven bedrooms, two guest wings, and an outdoor swimming pool.
