One Direction might have managed to scoop THREE awards at the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards, but it was also a big night for Ariana Grande. The Problem star managed to take home two awards in Glasgow at the SSE Hydro, where she won best song for her hit with Iggy Azalea before beating BEYONCE to pick up Best Female.
The 22-year-old also beat Katy Perry and the night’s host Nicki Minaj to the title. Unfortunately fans hoping to catch a glimpse of the big stars were left a little disappointed, as One Direction, Katy Perry, Beyonce and other big winners were unable to attend the ceremony in Scotland.
A host of stars have taken to the stage tonight – and pop royalty Nicki Minaj reigned supreme as our hostess with the mostess.
Nicki admitted that she was nervous about hosting the awards and was feeling the "pressure" ahead of the live show, held in Glasgow. The 31-year-old told MTV UK: "I was having a lot of anxiety yesterday actually because I know there is a lot of pressure and it’s a big job and I always want to give my best and be amazing."
With 17 awards given out there was plenty to talk about. Pop princess Katy Perry was up for seven prizes while Ariana Grande was close behind with six nominations.
Ozzy Osbourne was also recognised for his status as a rock legend as he was presented with the Global Icon award.
