Princess Beatrice, the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, will marry property tycoon Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in the first royal wedding of 2020.
But there was speculation as to whether Andrew would attend the event after stepping down from royal duties for the “foreseeable future”. Royal expert Angela Mollard revealed his position and believes it is the “right thing to do”.
Speaking on New Idea’s ROYALS podcast, Ms Mollard said: “This is very much the wedding she wants.
“She wants it small, contained, family; not a whole raft of celebrities and who can blame her at the moment when her dad’s in the spotlight?
“We have been told though that he will be walking her down the aisle.”
Co-host Zoe Burrell added: “I’m sure she would love that.”
Ms Mollard added: “It’s absolutely the right thing to do.”
On the show, she also suggested Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could kick up “the most tremendous stink” on her big day.
She believes the royal couple “want to miss out on it”.
Ms Mollard said: “I think the Commonwealth meeting is very important obviously because that’s the role the Queen gave them as Commonwealth youth ambassadors.
It will be interesting to see if they come back for that.
“If they don’t come back for Beatrice’s wedding I think it will be the most tremendous stink.
“It will just be seen as an absolutely massive snub to the Royal Family and would suggest that they absolutely put their own needs ahead of other royalty.
“Beatrice went to their wedding. They’re first cousins Beatrice and Harry.
“You have to imagine that they would come.”
Co-host Zoe Burrell added: “I wouldn’t want to miss out on it if I was them.”
Ms Mollard interjected: “But they do want to miss out on it. They don’t want to be part of that life.”
Princess Beatrice got engaged to Edo while on holiday to Italy in September 2019 and the Queen offered Buckingham Palace as a venue for the reception.
