PRINCESS EUGENIE once revealed the emotional reasons she would “hide at parties” while growing up as she had to “grow in confidence” to begin to speak to people.
Eugenie is one of royal fans’ favourite members of the family and was expected to take a starring role in her sister Princess Beatrice’s wedding this year. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Beatrice’s wedding was postponed in May due to health and safety fears. But reflecting on her own wedding day and how influential her sister was, Eugenie explained to Vogue ahead of her 2018 wedding what it was like for her growing up.
She revealed: “When we were younger, I always used to make her go into parties first.
“I’d hide behind her and she’d make the first move, then I’d get louder and louder as she made me more confident. We bring each other back to earth all the time.
“We’re very lucky.”
In the same interview, Beatrice then admitted that during the build-up to the wedding – in which she was Eugenie’s maid of honour – her sister had taken everything in her stride.
She added: “Euge is amazing. She’s a very modern bride. It’s going to be a great day.”
Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank cemented an iconic year for the Royal Family, as her cousin Prince Harry also wedded in a glamorous ceremony to US actress Meghan Markle.
Both celebrations saw the public’s imagination captured, with parties held across the world to coincide with Harry and Eugenie’s respective unions.
And despite it being one of the most talked about events of 2018, Eugenie told British Vogue a month before her October wedding that she was “not stressed at all” about the marriage – but was feeling pressure to put on a brilliant occasion for relatives and fans.
She said that the experience was “nerve wracking because you want it to be perfect but then you realise that you’re going to be with the person forever so nothing else really matters”.
She added: ” There’s a lovely quote from Maya Angelou, which I’m paraphrasing, that ‘No one will remember what you said but they’ll remember how you made them feel.’
“It’s about how we feel, but also how our family and friends feel.
“I want it to be beautiful and fun and to bring out our personalities as much as possible.”
The couple’s wedding was covered by ITV’s ‘This Morning’ and was watched by an estimated live audience of around three million.
Around 800 guests would attend the union, including celebrities such as Cara Delevingne, Naomi Campbell, James Blunt, Ellie Goulding, Demi Moore and Kate Moss.
No new date has been set for Beatrice’s wedding but it is expected to take place once the lockdown rules in the UK have been significantly altered.
All members of the Royal Family have been following the strict Government guidelines surrounding the virus, but have been completing duties and keeping in contact online.
