Now they have resigned as working members of the British royal family, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are no longer required to inform the Queen and Buckingham Palace of their plans. However, those close to the royals say a heads up would be nice.
While Harry and Meghan told the royals about their pregnancy, they reportedly didn’t inform them they’d been making the news public on Valentine’s Day.
“The Sussexes had apparently told the Royal Family their happy news, but not, it seems, that they would announce it,” the Mail on Sunday‘s royal editor Emily Andrews tweeted.
“Tonight’s announcement caught officials off guard, with no prepared statements. But everyone is ‘delighted’ including the Queen, Prince Philip and Prince of Wales.”
Following the announcement, Buckingham Palace released the following response: “Her Majesty, Duke of Edinburgh, Prince of Wales and entire family are delighted and wish them well.”
