The Queen’s events take place in the gardens of her London home, and at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, were adjourned due to the coronavirus pandemic. Tuesday would have been this Summer’s second gathering at Buckingham Palace.
Over 8,000 guests usually attend the engagements, celebrated in order to recognise and reward public service.
The royal family’s social media accounts remembered some who were invited to this year’s parties, including Consultant Paediatrician and charity founder Dr Sanjiv Nichani, and elderly volunteer Evelyn Karstadt.
The Palace tweeted: “To all of this year’s guests – thank you for your service, and we look forward to seeing you at Garden Parties next year.
“Garden Parties have been held since the 1860s, during the reign of Queen Victoria, and are a way of recognising and rewarding public service.
“Every year, The Queen welcomes over 30,000 guests to Garden Parties at Buckingham Place and the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
“The Garden Parties are an important part of HM’s diary, when she can meet people who have made a positive impact in their community.
“Today would have been the season’s second Garden Party at Buckingham Palace, and so we are hearing from some of the guests invited this year, who will be will be welcomed in 2021 instead.”
Dr Sanjiv Nichani has worked as a consultant paediatrician at the Leicester Children’s Hospital for over 20 years, and founded the Healing Little Hearts charity.
The charity deploys volunteer doctors and nurses around the world to perform free heart surgeries on babies, children and teenagers.
Invitations were also given out to around 50 people who contributed to their communities during the floods.
Matt Coley, from Lincolnshire, who helped load sand bags as well as handing them out in his local area.
Evelyn Karstadt will also attend the event in 2021. She obtained a British Empire Medal for her volunteer efforts in Barking and Dagenham.
She also took the Silver Surfers computer course and urged elderly people to do so too in order to prevent isolation.
Five events were postponed in London and a further engagement was adjourned in Edinburgh.
At the events, guests conjugate to watch the Queen and senior royals walk down lanes of people.
Some 27,000 cups of tea, 20,000 sandwiches and 20,000 slices of cake are served at each gathering.
The royals enter the tea tents to the National Anthem, and then tea and food are served.
Yeomen of the Guard take part in the event, dressed in their red and gold ceremonial outfits.
After the proceedings, guests can walk around the gardens as a military band plays music.
Guests invited to this year’s events will be able to attend to the 2021 garden parties instead.
Garden parties have been a tradition at Buckingham Palace since the 1860s.
Queen Victoria hosted what were known as “breakfasts” which contrarily took place in the afternoon.
