A new POLITICO report has taken an even deeper dive into the Trump-sycophantic Congressman’s seemingly endless scandal and found that Gaetz’s troubles aren’t actually all that new at all.
According to the report, federal agents apparently seized Gaetz’s iPhone over the winter when they executed a search warrant against the GOP House Representative. The report cites interviews with three people who were allegedly told of the incident by Matt Gaetz himself who actually changed his phone number late last year. The report notes that Gaetz’s girlfriend’s phone was also seized.
But it gets even better (or worse, if you’re looking at it from Gaetz’s point of view.)
As I’m sure you’ve noticed amid all the breaking news, tucked in the stomach-wrenching sex crime allegations, the various schemes, and the overall disgusting claims about the GOP Rep., you’ve seen the name, Joel Greenberg. Greenberg, a former tax collector in Seminole County, Florida, and a close associate to Matt Gaetz was indicted last June on multiple charges including federal sex trafficking, identity theft, and bribery of a public official.
Since the news about Gaetz broke, it’s been heavily speculated that Greenberg would ultimately turn on his own pal in an effort to save his own skin. But according to a report from the New York Times, he already has.
The Times reports that Greenberg has been providing information to investigators since last year. Two sources who have been briefed on the matter claim that Greenberg told investigators that he and Gaetz participated in sexual encounters with various women in exchange for cash and gifts. Evidently, the former Gaetz associate began spilling the beans to investigators when he realized the government had “overwhelming evidence against him.”
Apparently, the investigation into the GOP Rep. and his involvement with Greenberg has been ongoing for some time now, all of these details are only now coming to light after the investigation became public thanks to multiple reports.
Thus far, Gaetz has not been charged with any crimes but is under investigation for accusations involving a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old who he allegedly paid to travel across state lines with him, breaking federal sex trafficking laws; among a litany of other serious accusations.
It is said that the Department of Justice is also involved in an investigation against the Congressman as well as Joel Greenberg, regarding their potential involvement with multiple women who they allegedly recruited online for sex in exchange for cash payments.
Joel Greenberg’s attorney Fritz Scheller signaled that his client would likely take a plea deal and alluded to Greenberg’s full cooperation with the investigation into Gaetz last week when he said “I’m sure Matt Gaetz is not feeling very comfortable today.”
Gaetz continues to maintain his innocence and asserts that he has never been sexually involved with a 17-year-old or paid for sex.
