Gomez was among the many celebrities who joined Blackout Tuesday to show their support for the black community. The “Lose You To Love Me” singer did not post a black square on her Instagram account, but she made a bolder move.
Gomez decided to shut down her website and urged her fans to support the Black Lives Matter movement.
“It’s my hope today you are taking the time to do some introspective thinking about how we can all come together and listen to one another with an open heart and mind,” Gomez wrote.
“The country is long overdue for meaningful changes to our broken society. Black lives matter.”
Rihanna did the same by closing her shop for her brand Fenty. She also pledged to donate to Color of Change and Movement for Black Lives.
Other celebrities like Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Katy Perry and Justin Bieber supported the movement by posting black squares on their social media accounts.
“Today, we are joining the #blackouttuesday movement to mute our social media feeds so we can help elevate the voices fighting for equality and justice,” Spears wrote.
“Now more than ever, we need to support the black community and stand firm against racism, hatred, and violence. We are proud to donate to @nationalactionnetwork.”
The “Roar” singer, who is expecting her first baby with Orland Bloom, has also showed her support toward the Black Lives Matter movement.
