It’s official. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia is moving up to the last week of March from its 17-year-old time slot in May. Confirming a report in these columns, event organizer IMG Fashion announced Friday that the annual spring-summer shows in Sydney will shift to the earlier dates as of 2013.

IMG confirmed that MBFWA’s new dates will align with the spring-summer edition of a leading Sydney trade show called Premiere. According to a statement, the move is part of a new IMG Fashion strategy to partner with key trade shows in order "to create greater critical mass, strengthening opportunities for designers to be supported 365 days a year rather than an event focused solely on the runway."

"We consider ourselves solution providers, and we always look at necessary solutions and what is best for the industry. The date change is an important evolution of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia to ensure we are maximizing business opportunities for the industry" said IMG worldwide fashion events and properties managing director Peter Levy.
