Taylor Swift and stars react to ruling protecting LGBTQ workers

Taylor Swift and Caitlyn Jenner lead stars praising Supreme Court ruling giving LGBTQ workers protection.

Taylor Swift and Caitlyn Jenner were among the celebrities celebrating a new Supreme Court ruling in the US that gives the LGBTQ community protection in the workplace. On Monday, the Supreme Court ruled that federal law, prohibiting discrimination based on sex, should also include sexual orientation and gender identity – meaning gay and transgender employees are now protected from being fired or discriminated against at work.

The Trump administration had been against the ruling, but Judge Neil Gorsuch stated: ‘An employer who fires an individual for being homosexual or transgender fires that person for traits or actions it would not have questioned in members of a different sex.’ The ruling is a huge win for the LGBTQ community and many stars were seen reacting on social media, with Taylor Swift insisting the move is a ‘beautiful step forward’.

She tweeted: ‘YES!! Thank you to the Supreme Court Justices who voted in favor and all the advocates who have fought so hard for this! ‘We still have a long way to go to reach equality, but this is a beautiful step forward.’

Caitlyn Jenner joined Taylor in celebrating and shared a video with fans via Instagram, encouraging others to ‘keep fighting’ for LGBTQ rights. The star, who came out as a transgender woman in 2015, said: ‘Victory, yes! A victory for the LGBT community in Supreme Court today. This is great news! ‘Trans voices must be heard and they are. This is a great day.

Black trans lives matter, trans lives matter, we are not going to be erased, despite what the Trump administration has been doing to the trans community over the last couple of years.’ Caitlyn continued: ‘We’re going to keep on fighting and we’re going to fight hard, because this is Pride month and I’m so proud of being who I am. I want to encourage everybody to keep up the good fight, keep working it’s not over yet, we still have a lot of work to do.’
