Travis Kelce is staying focused on his Super Bowl preparations, and his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, is playing a key role in keeping him on track. With the Kansas City Chiefs advancing to Super Bowl LIX, Kelce has been advised to avoid partying and reveling in New Orleans, where the big game will be held, following some advice from Swift.

When the Chiefs secured their spot in the Super Bowl by beating the Buffalo Bills 32-29 on January 26, 2025, to win the AFC Championship, Swift celebrated on the field with Kelce. They shared a public display of affection and exchanged “I love you” moments, much like they did after last year’s AFC victory. The couple also talked about the upcoming Super Bowl in New Orleans, with Kelce referencing his college days at the University of Cincinnati.

In a TikTok video shared by The Kansas City Star, Kelce joked with Swift and his mother, Donna Kelce, saying, “Take me back to my old New Orleans home. I owe New Orleans a little something…” Swift, ever the perceptive girlfriend, asked if Kelce was referring to his infamous 2010 Sugar Bowl suspension after he tested positive for marijuana while in New Orleans. Kelce confirmed, and Swift, smiling, gave him some gentle advice: “Yeah, no going to Bourbon Street”, reported by Page Six.

Kelce replied with a laugh, “Yeah, I won’t be having as much fun that night,” and added that he wouldn’t be indulging in “[hand] grenades,” the popular cocktail served in New Orleans’ French Quarter.

The 35-year-old football star previously reflected on the suspension during a 2023 Vanity Fair interview. He recalled, “I was down in New Orleans, listening to Lil Wayne, and I wanted to smoke what he was smoking.” At that time, Kelce was preparing for the Sugar Bowl against the Florida Gators, but his pre-game partying led to a positive marijuana test and a one-year suspension from the University of Cincinnati football team. Kelce admitted to feeling “dead in the water” and was embarrassed, even contemplating quitting football. He eventually moved in with his brother, Jason Kelce, who played for the Philadelphia Eagles at the time, and returned to football before being drafted by the Chiefs in 2013.

Before the Chiefs’ big win over the Bills, Kelce spoke about how being “happy” in his relationship with Swift has allowed him to focus more on his career. “Having that confidence and comfort off the field and all the support I could ever ask for in the stadium,” he said on the Stephen A. Smith Show. “She’s fully encouraging me to enjoy playing this game. She loves coming to Arrowhead and cheering for me, so I got all the support in the world to keep chasing these dreams.”

Kelce added that being in a strong relationship allows him to concentrate solely on being the best version of himself, both on and off the field. With Swift’s unwavering support, it seems Kelce is as focused as ever heading into Super Bowl LIX.
