Penelope Cruz didn’t have to think twice about accepting her new role the face of Loewe – she agreed immediately. The Vogue cover girl was announced as an ambassador for the Madrid-based brand earlier this month.
"They approached me and I said yes very quickly because it’s a Spanish brand and everyone involved is from Spain – although the designer is British – all the work is done there in the factories in Spain," she told us. "It’s such an old company. It’s been there forever and I have grown up looking at their wonderful things."
The Oscar-winning actress revealed that she had wanted to get involved with another Spanish fashion brand "for a long time" – ever since her work with high street chain Mango. And, she says, she’s pleased with every aspect of the new partnership.
"I’m very happy that we both want to keep working with Mert [Alas] and Marcus [Piggott]," she said, of the famed photographers. "They are incredible."
Stuart Vevers, creative director of Loewe, had nothing but praise for his new poster girl when the news was first announced – referring to her "strong, sensual beauty" as a constant source of inspiration for him – praise which the actress blushes at when we remind her.
"Well I am grateful – and sometimes I don’t know what to say when it comes from a person that I also admire very much," she said. "I will thank him for saying all the beautiful things that he wrote for the [Loewe] press release. I think he’s really very talented."
