Now, a source is saying that Harry’s brother Prince William is “struggling to hold back” from sharing his side of the story in the wake of this interview.
But there’s only one thing holding him back…
“The queen is insisting that the royals handle the matter privately,” the insider told US Weekly, adding that Queen Elizabeth II “thinks that retaliating will only add fuel to the fire and make the situation worse.”
William, however, is eager to speak out and defend his family from the claims made by Meghan and Harry.
“William is struggling to hold back,” the source continued. “He wants to get his side out there.”
The source went on to say that the reason William wants to share his side is “firstly to protect [his wife] Kate [Middleton].” During the interview, Meghan claimed that it was Kate who made her cry in an argument about bridesmaid dresses before her 2018 wedding to Harry, rather than it being the other way around as the media reported. The source added that William also would like to “clear the racial allegations.”
Another source previously said that William and Kate were in “total shock overhearing what Meghan and Harry said. A third source claimed that William is “fuming” over his brother’s comments and “absolutely does not support speaking out against the crown.”
William himself addressed the interview briefly on March 11, when he said, “We’re very much not a racist family.”
On top of that, William is “uncomfortable” that Harry shared details of a private conversation the brothers had after the interview with Gayle King.
“William was left reeling. He says it was a cheap shot to leak details of their private call and that he twisted the truth,” a source told US Weekly. “He’s putting himself at risk of the same thing happening again.”
Last month, King said on her show “CBS This Morning” “Harry has talked to his brother and he has talked to his father, too. The word I was given was that those conversations were not productive, but they are glad they at least started a conversation.”
In the end, moving on from this may be difficult for the royal family.
“The problem with Harry is that he’s hooked on being right and regardless of saying he wants to move on from this, he won’t back down until he gets some form of apology from his family,” the insider said.
