Zayn Malik may have left One Direction because he couldn’t take the boy band lifestyle anymore,but he’s not done with boy bands just yet. According to The Sun, Zayn is joining a new super group or at least a TV show based on one. He’s signed on as executive producer on a new TV series about a 1D-style group. The show will follow One Direction a fictional boy band’s trials and tribulations as they struggle to find a record label to become a global phenomenon. A source close to the project revealed that Zayn is taking the project very seriously because he connects with the material. This is a big deal for Zayn, the insider told The Sun. "He has been keen to get stuck into different projects outside of music and this is the perfect move. It’s a subject he knows lots about and he will call upon his experiences to advise the scriptwriters on the show."
So, basically, you can expect everything to start out amazing for the boy band before it all falls apart. At least if Zayn’s experience with 1D is anything to go by. The oddest part about all this is that, apparently, the producers of the show plan for the fictional group to become genuine musical artists who’ll launch a chart career outside of the show. You know, kind of like Big Time Rush off of Big Time Rush. I’d think Zayn would advise them against that plan if he hated being in a manufactured band like One Direction so much, but whatevs. Maybe they don’t expect the band to last. Anyway, producers will begin casting the show next month and Zayn will be consulting scriptwriters and producers during the selection process. There’s no sign that Zayn is going to be starring in the show, but as an executive producer, he could cast himself in a role, right? Maybe as the fictional band member who leaves the band? He’s got personal experience with that, after all.
