Zayn Malik is opening up about his relationship with supermodel girlfriend Gigi Hadid. In a new interview with London’s ES Magazine, the 23-year-old One Direction alum discussed wooing Hadid with his cooking and admits the two are living together. The piece also finds Malik talking about his exit from the band that made him famous, his anxiety, and his appreciation for marijuana. Malik and Hadid, 21, have been a couple to watch since news sparked of their pairing in November 2015 when they stepped out together at an American Music Awards afterparty.
They’ve been seen out a lot since holding hands while out and New York City and even making their stylish red carpet debut as a couple at the Met Gala. They also highlighted their romance for Vogue‘s May issue, starring in a PDA-packed feature. And they got hot and heavy in Malik’s music video for his first single “PillowTalk” in January. In his chat with ES Magazine, Malik said the two have shacked up thought they haven’t made it formal yet. “We haven’t officially swapped keys or anything yet,” he said. “We live together wherever we are.” He said he first met Hadid at a Victoria’s Secret party and asked her out, having recognized her “from her picture.” The two had a “really nice” first date date was at New York City’s Bowery Hotel dining at its restaurant Gemma. Since then they’ve been nearly inseparable, meeting each other’s families and everything.
“She’s a very intelligent woman,” Zayn Malik gushed about Hadid. “She knows how to carry herself. She’s quite classy and that. She’s not, like, arrogant in any way. She’s confident. She carries it well. She’s cool.” The singer also admitted that Hadid has a singing voice of her own. “She’s got a nice voice,” he said. “I like her voice.” The two spend a lot of time in the kitchen which Hadid herself previously raved about to ES Magazine, telling them about how Malik was introducing her to British dishes like butter chicken (his signature dish!), baked beans even Yorkshire pudding. “Yeah, she liked a good Yorkshire pudding,” he said. As for drinks, she’s into tequila (“spicy margaritas and jalapeños crazy”) while he goes to whiskey (“Jameson or Glenfiddich”). He also indulges in weed from time to time not to deal with his anxiety problem, which played into his exit from One Direction, but to help with his music.
