Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen, Jenna Lyons, and More Toast the CFDA Fashion Awards Nominees and Honorees 2015
Just as the fashion flock got readjusted to being back on the East Coast, Diane von Furstenberg, Nadja Swarovski, and the CFDA hosted an intimate soiree at the Weather Room at the Top of the Rock to announce this year’s nominees. The locale, which provided sweeping landscapes of the city skyline from all angles, proved to be distracting for several guests, including Jenna Lyons and Courtney Crangi, Italo Zucchelli, and Public School’s Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne.
As the sun was setting, the city lights illuminated the chic space and guests took to the terrace for a last minute albeit chilly photo session, apt considering this year’s recipient of the Media Award in Honor of Eugenia Sheppard is Instagram. With spring officially starting on Friday, all chatter was about the brutal winter New Yorkers experienced.
“I’m excited about daffodils,” said Steven Kolb, CEO of the CFDA. “They’re the first flowers of spring.” Others were thinking about their new wardrobes. “Not having to wear a coat,” exclaimed Monique Péan, dressed in a Givenchy top and bag, with a J.W.Anderson skirt. Lily Kwong, dressed in eco-label Amour Vert, chimed in about “the opportunity to wear beautiful clothes!” As designers such as Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen, the Orley trio, Eva Zuckerman, Paul Andrew, Tim Coppens, and others congratulated each other on their nominations, the temperatures dipped, prompting a few to slip their coats back on.
Vera Wang, dressed in Balenciaga and Rick Owens, cut a cool figure, but said it best when asked what she was most looking forward to about the upcoming and hopefully balmier season: “The weather.”
