The G’Day USA Arts Gala, an annual event that celebrates Australian creative excellence in partnership with the United States, marked its 20th anniversary this year, gathering a host of presenters, award-winners, and celebrity guests at Los Angeles’s Skirball Cultural Centre for an evening of food and fashion.

Leading the crowd were the night’s notables: actor Sam Worthington, the 2023 honoree for excellence in film and television, arrived in the company of his wife Lara, who wore a sleek halter neck gown, matching in head-to-toe noir.

Singer and former Vogue Australia cover star The Kid Laroi was also in attendance as the year’s honoree for excellence in music; while the performer chose a more casual ensemble for the red carpet, cutting a relaxed figure in a slouchy button-up and trousers, partner Katarina Deme wore a plum dress with a keyhole cut-out at the neck.

The most headline-making occurrence of the night, however, belonged to Katy Perry and Miranda Kerr, the latter, the year’s honoree for excellence in the arts. Perry, who presented Kerr with her award, is engaged to Kerr’s former husband, Orlando Bloom.

The two made references to their friendship throughout the night, with Perry addressing their dynamic in her speech. “Some of you might be confused about why I’m introducing Miranda,” the 38-year-old singer stated. “That doesn’t play into the antiquated narrative of ex-wives and new wives.”

“And yes, it’s true, most of the media would like to see us mud wrestle, including Evan [Spiegel], but we are here to lead by love because Miranda is love—and as a lot of you know, love comes in many family iterations.”

Continued Perry: “I’m so grateful for our modern blended family. It’s like I gained another sister, one with whom I usually sidebar from the main family chat and agree with.”

Both Perry and Kerr sported Australian designer—Perry, wearing a hammered gold two-piece from Zimmermann’s spring/summer 2023 collection, and Kerr in a bodycon white Alex Perry midi dress, ruched on the bodice and skirt.
