On the first springlike night fno coats required, gents the fashion and entertainment communities gathered together to toast Jeffrey Kalinsky, who hosted the twelfth-annual Jeffrey Fashion Cares fund-raiser and show. Switching locations from the Armory on Lexington to the decidedly more sleek and streamlined ArtBeam Studios in West Chelsea, a fashionable crew made up of Anna Wintour, Narciso Rodriguez and Thomas Tolan, and Joseph Altuzarra among others took in the ambiance, including a silent auction by Gavel&Grand that featured items that ranged from DogPound personal training sessions they are the ones who helped transform Hugh Jackman into Wolverine to more luxe trips including tickets to Elton John’s Oscar viewing party.
“I always think the spirit of this event is joyous,” said Altuzarra accompanied by husband Seth Weissman. Narciso Rodriguez, following closely behind added, “Everybody shows up for Jeffrey it’s fantastic!”
But the evening’s purpose, to raise funds and awareness for three causes ACRIA, the Hetrick-Martin Institute, and Lambda Legal proved to be dear to host of the evening, Zachary Quinto. Cutting an elegant figure in Dior Homme, Quinto said of the organizations, “One is HIV education and research, one is really advocating LGBT and questioning youth, and one is really fighting for the legal rights of our community.
It’s such a dynamic combination, and at this time when there are people who are crowdsourcing money to monetize and politicize bigotry and hatred, these kinds of events become even more important and exciting. I’m really honored to be a part of it.” Kalinsky furthered this notion saying, “I am most proud of the money raised. We try to deliver into the hands of the charities 80 to 85 cents on the dollar, which is a huge challenge.”
After cocktails and the auctions had finished, it was time for the main event, which featured designs from avant-garde designers, including Bobby Abley to Givenchy to Saint Laurent. Model River Viiperi, dressed in a Sebastian from The Little Mermaid top by Abley, said his favorite part of the night is “seeing how the crowd gets when they see us do the show.” But what of the evening’s brainchild? “For it to be over!” said Kalinsky with a laugh.
