Famous Pakistani fashion designer Bisma Ahmed showcased her latest 2011 collection for spring/summer at Dubai Fashion Week.
A former winner of Dubai Fashion Week DFW Emerging Talent, Bisma Ahmed kick started Day 4 of Dubai Fashion Week with a 16 outfit collection entitled “Chantilly Lace & a Pretty Face” was a take on the famous French lace and its inclusion in Mughal fashion. The designer’s diverse cultural background manifested itself in her designs in the form of burnished gold work and heavy embellishments on the lace creations.
The models were ushered in with a slideshow of France, the land of the Chantilly lace, as the smoke machine and Sanskrit chants set the stage for a dazzling display of creativity. Elizabethan fashion married Mughal silhouettes as the “B’Zma” collection fused the two cultures with a masterful stroke.
Khan used lace in varying intensities in all her creations, teeming the fabric with silk, chiffon and jersey silk. A teal sari decorated with silver appliqués and a metallic grey sari made entirely out of lace won appreciation from the audience as did the flowing anarkalis with their heavy embellishments and simple chiffon dupattas. Salwar kameezes in beige, blue and lavender were followed by luxurious lehengas in gold and silver adorned with heavy metallic embroidery giving the outfits a truly regal look.
The asymmetrical designs retained their traditional profile, while experimenting with modern cuts and draping techniques. Without going over the top, Bisma Ahmed’s Spring/Summer collection added oodles of glamour to the ready-to-wear outfits.
