Custo Barcelona’s Autumn/Winter 2010/11 collection was inspired by extreme beauty and the inexplicable attraction of jewels. Gems and precious stones served as the basis for the creation of a very colourful, bright and cheerful collection that is nevertheless technically intricate. This collection defines a new chic style for the sensual, intelligent and non-conformist woman, but without losing sight of her sexier and more daring spirit.
The colours of the different gems also served as the basis for the season’s colour palette: black or pink diamonds, sapphires, turquoises, emeralds and amethysts, to mention a few, combined by type or even mixed with one another. The high technical level of the work is reflected in very elaborate pieces, with multicoloured sequin inlays, maxi embroidered details, heat-set shiny appliqués, as well as in other pieces decorated with slits and patchwork.
The latter were inspired by the different diamond shapes and are a constant theme throughout the collection. The patchwork, on the other hand, comprises different materials such as wool, tricot, velour and paillettes. Slits are either used in small doses on specific areas of the garments or on a macro-scale, slitting the same garment into different pieces.
As is customary, the women’s collection continues to feature silks and very light fabrics, such as very fine gauge tricot combined with thick gauges. Silks, however, have been revamped using a garment cutting process to which a new component has been added: velour.
The graphics used in this collection are truly groundbreaking with dreamlike and surreal touches; different jewels, spiders, diamonds, made-up eyes with long lashes, red lips, perfume bottles and other dressing table items have been intertwined as if in a dream, and butterflies and feathers have been mixed with images that are more figurative and typical of Custo Barcelona.
Highlights of the season include the Lowxury collection, a selection of jewel-garments at affordable prices and in a larger range than the previous season; a carefully designed daywear collection for complete looks that are easy to wear; reversible fur garments; a wide range of tricot garments with cuts inspired by diamond shapes: sweaters, cardigans, dresses and even scarves, and, finally, the new bag collection, which comes in a much wider range, to add the finishing touch to any outfit.
