D&G showed lapels wide and thin, trousers pleated and flat fronted, fits slim-cut and drop-crotched, silhouettes big and small in Milan Fashion Week Men’s F/W 2011 Collection the only stability in this collection of everything: thick-soled brogues.
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana stepped out of their comfort zone this season with a youthful collection that was textured, body-conscious and experimental in its shapes, proportions and fabrics they showcased their collection in Milan Fashion Week F/W 2011.
They also referenced crooners old and young, including Mick Jagger in his Sixties incarnation, Justin Timberlake and Bryan Ferry, who sat front row and whose album covers decorated T-shirts. Much of the collection was streetwise below the waist; elegantly tailored above it.
The fashion designers tossed cropped, chalk-stripe jackets into the washing machine so that the woolen fabric would shrink to fit the body, and printed Prince of Wales weaves onto trousers. The duo also dropped the crotches of jeans and played with lapels making them in contrasting textures and colors to the jackets, or whittling them down to thin strips for fly-front coats. Texture played a big part, too, with painted denim and leather for outerwear, distressed velvet for suit jackets, dense piles of faux fur for bombers and parkas, and a shower of sequins on tuxedo jackets.
