Avant-garde artist Aleksandra Ekster was the primary influence for Daniel Wingate’s rich, pre-fall palette of blues, reds and metallics rendered in relaxed silhouettes. His most literal references to Ekster’s work came via a graphic, color-blocked sheath with a slightly asymmetric hem, and a long-sleeve swing dress in multicolored paillettes. The collection’s more casual side reflected Wingate’s way with easy sophistication.
A blue, double-faced cashmere coat paired with deep red trousers and a white T-shirt; a Glen plaid, single-button coat worn over a black turtleneck, and a wrapped blazer with frayed edges made the best examples of effortless style.
