Following her fabulous fall collection film fest, Catherine Holstein looked to New York cinema once again for inspiration for the resort. Her latest gritty glam collection spans references, including a young Angelina Jolie and Jane Campion’s boundary-pushing 2003 erotic thriller “In the Cut” starring Meg Ryan.
The look: Early 2000s edge meets everyday ease.
Quote of note: “What began as a fantasy of simplification — the indulgence of shedding obligations to achieve a kind of freedom — led us to the edges of ease,” said Holstein. “The result is a collection that lives in layers and textures. Even amidst the decisive lines lives a sense of unraveling, a romance that invites you to make each piece your own.”
Key pieces: Olive green featherweight puffer with diamond quilting and fur collar; Vionnet-like pleated and draped jersey dresses of various shapes and weights; long skirts and wide-legged pants with shrunken cashmere sweaters or leather bomber jackets; elegant cutout and knotted T-shirts; pillowy patent leather totes; gummy rubber sole boots; elongated pumps, woven babouche slippers, and Khaite’s first sneakers, with platform soles.
Takeaway: Holstein is one of New York’s best at creating a mood, and with the introduction of a dedicated line of T-shirts, an expanded footwear range and her first sneakers in this collection, she’s upping her merchandising game to match.
