With many formal events on pause for the foreseeable future, it’s hard to imagine how a special-occasion brand plans to weather the COVID-19 storm. Luckily, Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia have been evolving their evening roots into more effortless-yet-still-chic territory over the past couple of years.
“The mantra this year was a lot of comfort and ease, and simply uncomplicated design,” Babi said, adding: “We’re realizing that the whole landscape, the dialogue has changed.”
The designers kept their spring collection effortless alongside core pillars of color and mixed prints. Within the edited collection were easy print blouses paired back to shorts, playful color-blocked dresses in babydoll and floor lengths and a standout floral dress with red accents along romantic flutter sleeves that could easily be dressed up or down.
There was a focus on wearability through separates like a bandeau top, bohemian skirt and an ikat blouse and shorts set, with Babi noting: “She can live in it. There’s a shift in how people are living their lives. You need a few good things and that’s plenty. When you look good, you feel good.”
