Zuhair Murad Collection for Paris Fashion Week Spring 2016
Fans of Zuhair Murad’s elaborate creations have reason to celebrate: The designer is moving into daywear this season with a collection that tapped all his codes while also offering solutions more applicable to everyday life.
With the sailor as inspiration – his story, not just his stripes – Murad splashed embroidered, printed and sequined kisses (representing lovers in every port) across many designs, including his signature glittering gowns, a cute-but-sober stretch knit skater dress, and floaty organza looks. He also showed the requisite navy-and-white stripe looks – a semitransparent sweater with strap details and a bejeweled evening dress, for example – as well as uniform-style tailored jackets and sailor pants updated with contrast stitching.
More unexpected given the sea-faring theme were the colorful floral patterns on sequined gowns, silk jacquards and knit jacquards for day. These represented the flowers that Murad’s sailor gave to his lovers.
