When I buy clothing, I often think about the lifetime wear for each piece. Can I style this in a variety of different ways? Can this look work well for daytime and for nighttime? When deciding on key foundational items for your seasonal wardrobe, invest in pieces that you know you’ll wear over and over again, versus the one-hit-wonders that take up way too much space in so many of our closets.
Here, I’m sharing six super versatile go-to pieces that will make your summer wardrobe work just a little bit harder for you.
Little White Dress
Excuse me while I live in this all summer. Wear yours with flat sandals and a denim jacket or add a heel and a pair of bright tassel earrings. In a variety of shapes and styles, find the fit that works for you and see how often you’ll pull this dress out all season long. For a bunch of fun ways to style the white dress.
Mules
Mules are having a major moment right now. They’re an on-trend look that again works a number of different ways. I love pairing mine with cropped denim and sun-dresses alike! It’s an old school shoe shape that’s feeling modern and fresh – the perfect update for your summer closet.
Cropped Denim
Show some ankle! I’m a jeans and tee kind of girl and always on the hunt for my next favorite denim brand. The beauty of the cropped jean is that it pairs well with flats and heels, making it my ultimate day-to-night transitional piece.
Neutral Silk Tank
A feminine, silk tank in a neutral color is a wardrobe workhorse. It’s a great basic to pair for work underneath jackets and blazers or wear it alone with denim or dress pants and heels when you can show a bit more skin. Either way, it’s a piece that you’ll go back to again and again.
Crisp Button Down
I love a simple button down shirt not only because of the different ways you can wear it, but also because of how many different ways you can tie and tuck it! One of my absolute favorite ways to wear a white button down? Paired with higher waist denim – instead of buttoning it,cross over each side to create a faux wrap style and then secure it with the button closest to where you want the overlap to fall. It’s a gorgeous update to a very simple silhouette.
A Bold Pencil Skirt
Summer gives us a total excuse to play with color. Instead of pulling out your basic, neutral pencil skirt, opt for a brighter hue to bring a bit of fun into your outfit! Adding a simple tee, chambray shirt or that silk tank that I mentioned earlier can create a variety of different looks for day and night.
