According to ABC10, middle school nurse Stephenson was summoned to the corridor to assist 13-year-old Isaiah Griffin who was throwing up.
It began for Isaiah as simply another day at school. He attended school as usual and seemed to be in excellent health. But then, not long after getting to college, he started feeling sick and throwing up.
When Nurse Stephenson visited Isaiah to see how he was doing, her first assumption was that he had the same stomach bug as a few other youngsters, but she immediately sensed something was wrong. She was aware of his predicament. What occurred next reinforced her concerns.
Additionally, Isaiah continued to stagger as his eyes began to roll toward the back of his head. His vomit also didn’t seem to be normal. “I honestly thought he was fixin’ to die,” Stephenson said.
Instead of sending Isaiah home with his mother to rest, she asked that he be taken right away to the hospital. When Isaiah’s family got to the hospital, they discovered that Isaiah was suffering from a stroke caused by a blood clot that was just an inch from his brain stem.
Isaiah’s prognosis is favorable because of Stephenson’s rapid thinking, although he could need some physical and occupational therapy when the clot is removed.
Although Nurse Stephenson is referred to as a hero, she does not see herself in that light. She just said that she did what she hoped every other nurse would do when questioned about her behavior.
Isaiah is very appreciative of getting another opportunity at life and exhorts others to “Never give up. Always have faith. Debra, the mother of Isaiah, is very appreciative of this nurse.
Debra replied, “I could have been organizing a funeral. He may not have lived to see his 14th birthday.
This is the most severe issue that Nurse Stephenson, who has been at the middle school for three years, has ever had to handle. “To me, it was just God’s mercy coming through. She said, “God was all over it.
