Thomas Mosley, 21, is suspected of fatally stabbing Jeffery, his girlfriend, after she hosted a party for Mosely’s birthday at her St. Petersburg apartment, according to an arrest affidavit previously obtained by PEOPLE.
After that, according to the complaint, Taylen, the couple’s son, was allegedly thrown by Mosley into Lake Maggiore in St. Petersburg before being taken to his mother’s home with severe cuts on his wrists and arms. The police claim that Mosley then checked himself into a local hospital to get his injuries treated.
Following the issuance of an Amber Alert for Taylen and the beginning of a thorough search by the authorities, Taylen’s body was found inside the alligator’s mouth. “In order to get hold of Taylen Mosley’s body, the alligator had to be killed. What caused his death will be determined by the medical examiner, “A police report was read.
According to jail records, Mosley is being detained in the Pinellas County Prison on two counts of first-degree murder. He hasn’t yet pleaded guilty to the accusations leveled against him.
In a statement to PEOPLE, Margaret Russell, Mosley’s defense lawyer, said: “Our investigation is currently focused on gathering information about the facts and circumstances of the case, as well as our client’s mental state. This is because of the extremely serious allegations surrounding these tragic losses.”
According to a GoFundMe page set up to assist with memorial expenses for the victims, Jeffrey was a single mother who worked at CVS and was committed to giving her kid “a better life.” As of April 4, the campaign had garnered more than $38,000.
The family announced in an update on April 3 that they would increase the fundraising target from $30,000 to $50,000 in order to cover unforeseen costs associated with Taylen and Jeffrey’s funeral and burial.
The statement reads, “Initially we would have preferred to have Pashtun and Taylen together in one casket, as you rarely saw them separated in their living.” Regrettably, we discovered that we need two different caskets and grave sites.
The GoFundMe page indicates that the memorial service will take place on April 7. Mosley is expected to show up in court on April 11, which is four days after that.
