Brooklyn indie scent line D.S. & Durga is known for its iconoclastic perfumes – such as Mississippi Medicine and Pale Grey Mountain, Small Black Lake – which are evocative of fragrant journeys.
The newest endeavor from the brand, run by husband and wife team David Seth Moltz and Kavi Moltz, finds them pitching up with El Cosmico, an upscale campground in West Texas art town Marfa, that offers trailers, tents, tepees and yurts to overnight adventurers.
El Cosmico X D.S. & Durga has desert-inspired notes of pepper tree, creosote and pinyon pine. The 50-ml bottle sells for $150 and is currently available from El Cosmico, dsanddurga.com and at select retailers. David Seth Moltz projects that his limited-edition scent will sell out in 2015, resulting in sales of about $150,000.
To launch the scent, Moltz, a musician, and his new band, Copal Opal, recently performed two perfumed sets on-site in one of El Cosmico’s tepees. Using a pedal-driven custom-built floor fan, Moltz sent out a mix of accords to accompany the sounds, a heady blend of minimalism and world music influences.
D.S. & Durga have previously collaborated with Rodin, Anthropologie, J. Crew and Glenlivet. The brand received two 2015 Fragrance Foundation nominations for Indie Fragrance of the Year, one for Foxglove, and one for their newest scent for Rodin, Bis.
