A German clothing designer Lodenfrey introduced io-Jacket during the CEBIT, which includes MP3, mobile-phone and GPS all built in. Apparently only 10 of the design have been produced but were sold at auction on eBay as part of a fundraiser for the Humans for Humans Foundation.
The io- jacket is based on Interactive-Wear’s ‘Know-where concept Jacket‘ with their integrated MP3 player and a Bluetooth mobile phone interface. That’s basically the standard configuration for a decent Wearable Electronic Jacke.
The additional bonus for the io-Jacket is the use of the GPSoverIP function from a German company with the same name. Hybrid GPS technology enables you to look for the person wearing the jacket even inside a building, where normal GPS does not work. With the service from Vodafone, the Jacket wearer can upload in realtime his position and anyone knowing the website can follow the movement.
The io-Jacket is a concept with the difference that this one can be actually bought. But it will take some time until this Jacket technology becomes mainstream and more affordable Vodafone is sponsoring the GPS locating and uploading service for 2 years for free. The jacket was priced around €4,700, which is equivalent to about $6,382 USD.
