Though meteorologists promised the first snow of the season, it was more wet than winter wonderland when Barneys New York unveiled its Baz Dazzled Holiday windows Thursday evening very wet indeed. Baz Luhrmann, who worked on the store spectacular with his wife Catherine Martin, didn’t mind.
"We shot ‘Gatsby’ in Australia, and it rained for seven days and we had to move to the studio. We shot ‘Australia’ in the desert and it rained."
The crowd endured the rain. Then Luhrmann waved his hands and the show started: ice skaters, elfs, a marching band and two queens one solar, one lunar on the second floor balconies singing an opera version of Madonna’s "Holiday."
"I was at the dress rehearsal on the street last night," Barneys’ chief executive Mark Lee said before the reveal. "I was left speechless."
