Princess Kate’s team of choice, England, whom she is the patron of, will face off against France, while Prince William’s team, Wales, whom he also holds a patronage for, will play Italy. The matches are scheduled back-to-back, with Wales playing first, followed by the England vs. France match—making for a highly charged afternoon at their home, Adelaide Cottage.
The England vs. France match will take place at Twickenham, and there is a possibility that Prince William could attend, following in the footsteps of his aunt, Princess Anne, who attended the Scotland vs. Italy game last weekend. This split allegiance has previously led to some amusing family moments. In February 2023, during the Six Nations, their son Prince George was caught in the middle of his parents’ differing loyalties when they watched England vs. Wales together. When asked which team he supported, George smiled and shrugged, prompting Prince William to laugh and say, “It’s become quite the thing in the house,” before pointing to Princess Kate and adding, “She is quite into it. I’m trying to stay out of it”, reported by the Express.
Prince George, however, seemed to make a decision by the end of 2023, when he joined his father to watch Wales play Argentina in the Rugby World Cup quarter-final. It was a royal first for the 11-year-old, who wore a red tie to show his support for Wales.
The royal family’s connection to rugby doesn’t stop there. Princess Kate shared that Princess Charlotte also plays rugby, although she seems to favor football, as evidenced by her heartfelt message supporting the Lionesses. In 2023, the Princess of Wales also mentioned that her youngest, Prince Louis, is “mad about rugby,” particularly enjoying the running aspect of the sport. “They all love sport,” Kate said, explaining that her children are at an age where they simply love running around.
With such a packed and exciting weekend of rugby ahead, we can only imagine the family dynamics as they juggle support for two competing teams. We send our best wishes to the Wales household as they navigate a weekend full of sporting passion.
