On past episodes of Queen Radio, Minaj has referred to Petty as her husband. (“Every night when I get out of the shower, my husband takes this really good lotion that we just bought, and he massages my feet, and rubs them, and he rubs each toe individually, and the heel, and the ball of my foot, and he does it all,” she said back in March.) However, she’s kept pretty quiet about what their actual status is—until this Friday, when she dropped the news that the couple went out and got their marriage license.
“We did get our marriage license,” she said on Queen Radio. “I think I have what I was striving for, just happiness. It was so hard to get to a happy place. Now that I’m there I don’t want to compromise that for anyone of anything. Certain traveling things I don’t wanna do it. I’m just enjoying my downtime.”
Minaj has been dating Petty since 2018, after ending a relationship with rapper Meek Mill. She and Petty met when they were teenagers in Queens, and she’s previously described him as one of her “first loves.” While Petty’s past criminal history has been a contentious point for fans and blogs, Minaj has shown how serious she is about the relationship by referencing him in her song “Megatron” and having him star alongside her in the video.
She had also sent people into high alert back in December, when she posted a photo of the two of them with a caption that read, “He want me to be his wife- his MISSIS like SIPPI NOW.”
Minaj didn’t share details about whether or not she’ll be having a full wedding reception or a ceremony. But because this is Nicki we’re talking about, we can almost certainly expect something extravagant and brilliantly over the top when she does tie the knot. And yes, we’re hoping there are pink wigs involved.
