Valentino Garavani received one of France’s highest honours yesterday – the Commandeur de l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres medal. The Italian designer was presented with the accolade by French Minister of culture and communication Aurelie Filippetti.
This is the third time Garavani’s work has been recognised in France – he has previously been bestowed with the Legion d’Honneur and the Medalle de la ville de Paris. Other well-known recipients of his most recent award include Sonia Rykiel, Bob Dylan and Patti Smith.
Next month, Garavani’s lengthy career will be celebrated in London, with an extensive exhibition held at Somerset House – slated to open on November 28.
